Getting Started Is Half the Battle

July 6, 2009

Actually, It’s more like Woody Allan said, “Eighty percent of success is just showing up.” For those who write, it means putting your tail on the chair and being there, writing something… Anything at first.

For me, that’s where I have been lacking a bit when it comes to this blog. Ya see, no blog would be complete without the occasional I’m sorry letter for not writing in it as often as one would be expected to. So consider this post just that.

Usually, these sorts of posts of sorryness, (I know it’s not a word, but it is what it is), eventually include the “promise” to where the author will spend more time, write more, do what he/she preaches and contributes to the lives of those who are reading what shows up in this space (well, when it shows up, that is).

So yes, the goal, thought, idea, plan, do what I say not what I do of what you will begin to see here is just that. For me to do more, write more, contribute more, type more, advise more and have this be one of those spots on the web of interest to anyone who wants to be more, do more through writing.

It begins by sitting down and doing just that.

So let’s get busy. Ummmm, tomorrow ok with you?

Giving In To Writing Related Distractions

September 19, 2007

Ever have those moments when you just don’t know what in the world you are doing? You’re sitting there typing away, and a thought comes to your mind that you gives you this feeling that you have no idea what is happening?

Maybe it’s a thought you should be doing something else, be it a different writing project such as working on an article instead of your current blog entry, or maybe you feel you’d be better off searching for new markets instead of writing the same ole piece on what to do with pumpkin insides once you carve it for Halloween.

For me, perhaps those thoughts are telling us something. Either that or they are just being a distraction, trying to take us away from what we are and should be doing at a give moment.

As an idea, take a moment, give in to the thought that there could be something else you should be doing (writing aspect that is), and take a short walk up the block and back.

See what the fresh air, the sights and sounds of the outdoors and the feeling of the approaching autumn tells you.

Then sit down, write out what you thought during your trip and see what new ideas are there for you to do right now.

Try it out. And let me know what you came up with, as well as other ideas you have had to fight the urge to do other things.

It’s How It Really Is

September 14, 2007

As writers, we are often asked where we come up with all of our ideas. It’s one thing to say they just come to us or something like, I don’t know, it just happens.

The truth is, every day brings with it new things to write about. And now we can show everyone with this.

To Be A Better Writer

September 3, 2007

I don’t know it is just timing or what, but it seems someone whom I read rather often has published a post about what it takes to become a better writer not long after I started this new blog.

Scott Ginsberg, Whom I wrote about when I mentioned the 200 Writing Prompts ebook , has written a post this morning about that it takes to become a better writer.

Writing every day, writing without planning, writing because by doing it makes you better at it, are all but a couple of the ways he talks about.

There are others, but I am sure you will get something from his list of 23 ways to improve what you do.

Now for my question…
